From Rock Bottom to Radiance: A 3-Year Bariatric Surgery Transformation
Apr 22, 2025

Three Years Post-Surgery: A Journey of Healing and Empowerment
Three years ago, I lay on an operating table, embarking on a journey that would redefine my life. But the transformation began even earlier—four years ago, when I chose sobriety over addiction and started confronting the toxic relationships and self-destructive patterns that had held me back.
Back then, I was entangled in a relationship that eroded my self-worth, believing I deserved no better. I was also battling food addiction, using eating as a coping mechanism for emotional pain. Recognizing this as a disease was the first step toward healing.
Understanding Food Addiction and Its Impact
Food addiction is a complex condition where individuals develop an unhealthy relationship with food, often using it to cope with emotional distress. This can lead to patterns of binge eating and emotional eating, which are particularly challenging for those considering or recovering from bariatric surgery. Addressing these behaviors is crucial for long-term success post-surgery.
The Steps That Changed My Life
-
Acknowledging the Disease: Understanding that my eating habits were part of a larger issue allowed me to seek appropriate treatment and support.
-
Taking Action: Attending my medical appointments and committing to the process were vital steps in my journey.
-
Embracing Change: Post-surgery, I overhauled my lifestyle—leaving a monotonous job to pursue a fulfilling career helping others navigate their bariatric journeys.
-
Prioritizing Self-Care: I learned to put myself first, understanding that I can't pour from an empty cup. This shift improved my relationships, especially with my child, as I became more present and active in our shared experiences.
Life After Bariatric Surgery
The journey doesn't end with surgery; it's a continuous process of growth and self-discovery. I've found love, pursued a career that aligns with my passion, and built a stronger bond with my child. These changes stem from the commitment to prioritize my well-being every day.
